How much does a notary cost in North Carolina?
NC law caps notary fees at $10 per signature for acknowledgments, jurats, verifications and oaths. I charge $5 per notarized page, half the state maximum. If I travel to you, an additional charge applies, and we agree on it before the appointment. Payment by Zelle or cash.
Can you notarize H1B and immigration documents?
Yes. I regularly notarize employment verification letters, affidavits of support, name mismatch affidavits, and other documents that back up H1B and visa filings. I notarize your signature; I cannot give immigration advice or fill out immigration forms for you.
Do you handle Indian passport renewal and OCI paperwork?
Yes, these are among my most common appointments. I know the VFS document sets for passport renewal, surrender certificates, OCI applications and PCC, so I can tell you which pages typically need notarization before you print anything.
Can you notarize a Power of Attorney for property or banking in India?
Yes. POAs for use in India usually need your signature notarized here first, then an apostille from the NC Secretary of State or attestation from the Indian consulate, depending on what the receiving office in India requires. I notarize the POA and point you to the right next step.
What ID do I need? Can I use my Indian passport?
Any current government-issued photo ID works: US or Indian passport, US driver license, green card, or EAD card. Every signer must be present with their own ID, and documents must be signed in front of me, not before.
Do you come to my home? What does it cost?
Yes, evenings and weekends, across Concord, Huntersville, Kannapolis, Davidson, Cornelius, University City and north Charlotte. South Charlotte works for larger jobs since it is a longer drive. You pay $5 per notarized page plus a travel charge based on distance, quoted and agreed before I drive out.
Where is your commission valid?
I am commissioned in Mecklenburg County, NC, current through January 23, 2028. An NC notary commission is valid statewide, so I can notarize anywhere in North Carolina. You can verify any NC notary through the NC Secretary of State.
Can you certify a copy of my passport or degree certificate?
In NC, a notary cannot certify copies directly. The standard route, which consulates and VFS accept, is a "copy certification by document custodian": you sign a short statement swearing the copy is true, and I notarize your statement. I keep blank custodian forms ready so this takes two minutes.
